Mumbai airport makes RT-PCR mandatory for anyone landing.

Check the new guidelines.
With the rising concern of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday, December 1, revised the old guidelines. The new advisory says that all domestic passengers flying to the state must present a negative RT-PCR test report conducted 72 hours before departure.

The Mumbai airport has advised all the domestic airlines to deny boarding of any passenger who’s unable to present a negative RT-PCR test report conductor within 72 hours before their departure. However, in case of emergencies like family distress, the rules can be bent and testing will be allowed on arrival at the Mumbai airport.

As of now, a total of six passengers from ‘at-risk’ countries have tested positive for coronavirus, however, it is not confirmed as to whether their genome carries the Omicron variant.

The civic council also instructed the airport operator to “immediately” apply the amended COVID-19 rules published by the Government of India (GOI) in response to concerns about the new Omicron form of coronavirus.

In the latest SOPs, the Maharashtrian authorities have also specified that anyone entering the nation from high-risk countries shall compulsorily undergo institutional quarantine for a week and take RT-PCR tests on the 2nd, 4th, and 7th-day post-arrival.

“To avoid major inconveniences and also to recast their travel plans, a window of two days is proposed to be given to all passengers from the risk countries,” the BMC stated.

As per the latest reports, the countries that are affected by the Omnicron variant of the coronavirus includes the UK, South Africa, Brazil, South Korea, China, Botswana, Mauritius, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel.
